Cover Girls - Laura

Cover Girls is a project started during my Master’s degree at The University of Huddersfield, Cover Girls aims to add to representations of those who feel underrepresented through mainstream imagery. Showing there is more than one type of body shape, everyone is different and there is no ‘normal’ or ‘ideal’ image, even though society often says otherwise.

Each model was asked to use at least three positive words to describe themselves in the image, as people are always quick to point out the negatives about themselves. On some image they were asked to write a positive statement about how they felt about themselves in the image, boosting their confidence whilst highlighting the positive thigs about themselves and what makes them unique.

From Laura…

I wanted to take part in this project since I feel strongly about not challenging but adapting the stereotypes we see in modern day media.

From experiencing what it is like to be both on sides of the coin from my own struggles with weight and eating disorder, I have learnt to feel comfortable in my own skin and this photoshoot has helped me to feel more confident with what I see in the mirror.

I want to spread awareness that it’s not the size that matters, it’s how you feel on the inside.
