Inconvenience Stores - Part 1 (2019)
Inconvenience Stores is a zine I put together as part of my second year work at university, the work aims to address the rapid decline of the high street. The work was made in 2019 before the pandemic, since then more high street have closed their doors including shops like TopShop leading to unused units sitting on the high street and shopping centres as online shopping becomes more popular instead of physically going out, decreasing the footfall of the high streets. In the zine I also included some facts and statistics from new reports of the high street which I haven’t included here as they may not be accurate anymore, however I have included the archive images I used alongside my own images to highlight how different things used to be, with market places being the heart of small towns/cities in the areas I photographed and others, which are now quiet and their high streets are now lined with take puts, charity shops, barbers, vaping shops and betting shops. This is definitely something I would like to pick up on in the future, as it is an issue that affects the area where I have lived my whole life.
Below are three separate slide shows of three locations I photographed, starting with the map of the area, followed by archive photographs, and then my own images .
