Physique des Femmes - Editorial

Physique des Femmes centres around female body image and the diversity around body shapes and types in the medium of fashion photography and the platforms the images are circulated within. This project began from a realisation I had when I was trying on some denim shorts in a fitting room (pre pandemic), and realised that even though they were the same size I had always bought they were difficult to fasten, this also turned out to be the case with denim jeans. This made me realise how the fashion industry is constantly trying to force unrealistic body standards on women, in this case by making the waistline of products such as denim shorts and jeans smaller each year. Physique des Femmes aims to make a positive step towards normalising all female body types and shapes, rather than putting them into categories such as ‘petite’, ‘curves’ and ‘plus size’ to name a few.
